Project Engineer
Designing
and constructing a fully working transportation solution by applying new
technology to existing cable transportation (think motorized gondola or zip
line).
Goal
is to produce a semi-autonomous vehicle running on a straight and curved cable.
Project entails designing internal electronics and advising on overall
structural capabilities.
First
phase will move a 20-pound chassis and the second phase to move 300 pounds.
Robotics
experience a plus along with knowledge of Python motor
control software.
Must
know which off the shelf components to put together such as DC motors, power
filters, transformers, raspberry pi, and motor drivers to build a safe and
functional system.
Compensation: Part-time at $20 an hour
Timeframe: Expected
completion June 2018

Details: The project is designing and constructing the box labeled 601 in
the diagram below. A construction contractor is responsible for setting up the
poles 200, the cable 603 and the box 602.
The project engineer and I need
to determine the feasibility and performance issues necessary to build such a
system.
Items to consider:
1.
Weight of box 601
2.
Performance of motor(s) in box
601
3.
What level of power will work in our
prototype to move 300 lbs. (24VDC, 48VDC, amps?).
4.
Power is distributed via cable
603 so the weight of box 601 is reduced (no batteries, no combustion motor)
